Welcome

"Advanced Research Infrastructure for Materials and Nanotechnology in JAPAN (ARIM)" is a project that supports your research and development by providing access to cutting-edge research facilities owned by universities and other institutes through "facilities sharing" and by promoting the utilization of material data. This site is operated by the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), the centeral hub institute of ARIM.

Procedure for Use

  • Once the facility to be used has been determined through a consultation, please proceed with "User Registration" and "Project Application" through the homepage of the institutes where the facility is installed. 
  • A list of ARIM support implementing institutes (including each institute's homepage and contact information) is available on the "Project Organization" page of this site.

Usage Types

  • There are various usage types: Technical Consultation, Equipment Operation by users, Technical Assistance, Operation on behalf of users, Research Collaboration, and Data Utilization. 
  • Depending on the type and characteristics of the facility, as well as the structure of the support implementing institute, not all usage types may be available (for details, please contact the institution where the facility is installed).

User's Reports

  • After completing your usage, you are required to submit a user's report summarizing the content of your usage for each fiscal year. 
  • Past "User's Reports (Japanese site)" can be viewed on this site.

Fee

  • Usage fees apply. 
  • The fees vary depending on the facility and institute, and can be confirmed on the homepage of the institute where the facility is installed. 
  • ARIM Implementing Institutes 'List of Pricing Pages'.

Others

  • We request that you provide the data obtained from the use of the facility. 
  • The provided data will be stored in the RDE system (a system that automatically structures and accumulates research data) and utilized for data-driven materials research. 
  • It is possible to opt out of providing data, but in that case, the usage fees will differ.
