Kyoto University Microstructural Characterization Platform "Advanced Structural Observation/Characterization User-Facility Center"
The mission of this center is to support the microstructural characterization and elemental analysis of nanomaterials and organic or inorganic advanced functional materials by using advanced transmission electron microscopes. The center promotes the development of nanomaterials, the reinforcement of technological competitiveness and the encouragement of human resources in nanotechnology field by providing advanced research support.
About this institute
This center provides access to an ultralow-temperature high resolution transmission electron microscope (cryo-TEM) and spherical-aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopes located at the Institute for Chemical Research in the Uji campus of Kyoto University. The cryo-TEM is effective for structural observation and electron diffraction measurements of soft materials such as organic crystals and polymer materials which are sensitive to electron irradiation, and observation of nanostructure of molecular aggregations in solution by quick freezing of the solution. The aberration-corrected microscopes provide high spatial resolution imaging and elemental analysis via high energy resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy for advanced functional materials and nanomaterials.
