Overview of Nanotechnology Platform Japan (NTPJ)

NTPJ -- "Open Advanced Facilities Initiatives"

The "Nanotechnology Platform Japan (NTPJ)" is the project by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). The mission is to establish a reliable research infrastructure (Platform) for scientific innovation by the alliance of the institutes which have cutting edge equipment and research know-how. Through this program, it is promoted for any of researchers from young to industrial one to do the share-use of the equipment, and to provide the shortest way to solve the urgent problems in science and technology. Therefore, all of scientists are invited to participate in this project to share equipment beyond the barrier of scientific communities and research organizations. In this program, 38 groups from 26 institutes and universities are joined and establish one single structure for "Share-Use Cutting-Edge Facility for Nanotechnology", which will be supported by MEXT for 10 years from 2012.

The Structures of Nanotechnology Platform Japan

"Nanotechnology Platform Japan" (NTPJ) consist of three platforms for "Open Advanced Facilities Initiative for Innovation", since nanotechnology itself has been playing a fundamental role on various fields of science and technology. The techniques such as "Advanced Characterization Nanotechnology", "Nanofabrication" and "Molecular & Materials Synthesis" are the most exciting fields in advanced science and technology as well as industrial ones. It is strongly anticipated that the integration of these technologies in the field of IT, environment, energy and life science will create large and unexpected break-through in the future life and society.

[ Center of NTPJ ]

In this program, interactive researches and their integration are promoted through the coordination by the Platform Center which is located at National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). The research collaboration is encouraged by the coordinators, and particularly the matching of technical seeds and industrial needs is pursued to realize the significant results for future nanotechnology.
